my new job is ... different. in a good way, though. i like the change. it's organized. the employees are nice. and no one treats me like i work for them. everyone treats me like i work with them, which is important to me.
so on the first day i was informed that everyone has to go to lunch at 12 pm. i found this kind of odd. then, yesterday i learned that no one has voice mail on their phones. the theory behind this is when the founder and CEO started the company he always wanted clients and potential clients to get to talk to a live person. from a customer service standpoint, this is an excellent idea. i hate calling a business and getting, "you've reached the desk of jo blo, and i'm either on another line or away from my desk ... blah blah blah." you know the drill.
so, today i put two and two together. (that degree is really paying off!) everyone has to go to lunch at the same time so when the phone rolls to the receptionist, or another designated person who's exempt from the lunch rule, she will know where that person is — at lunch. for the remainder of the day if one worker is out or at a meeting, the phone rings to his or her neighbor's desk who can help the client. i think this process is quite clever!
