...where sophia goes missing in the hospital and the other three characters spend the entire episode looking for her only to find her in the elevator?
well, that's kind of how my friday went except there was nothing funny about it. my mother in law was in a hospital in louisiana in very critical condition. because of hurricane rita (and i suppose in an effort to appear that the organization was doing a better job with this hurricane than they did with katrina) fema came in at 8am on friday morning and took my mother in law... right in front of her confused and scared husband and (two) daughters. they asked where she was going and were refused any information. they asked if one of them could go with her (one of her daughters is a rn) and were refused.
around 12 noon my husband and i were contacted and told what was going on. and me, being persistent, anal and refusing to be run over -- i got on the phone and started making calls. all i could find out was that she could possibly be in nashville, but that couldn't be confirmed. so, i go in to work and talk to my boss who has a good relationship with a congressman and senator in texas. he made some phone calls for me and around 3pm all we knew was that my mother in law had been taken to shreveport, la. and from there fema was dispersing patients to other hospitals based on their illness and if there was room at the designated hospitals.
to make a long, stressful story short, we found her at 8pm that evening. she was, in fact, in nashville and the medical professionals there had not been giving any of her chart information. so, while i'm on the phone with the nashville location (a very nice nurse by the way), my husband is on the phone with his rn sister and we are relaying what medications, how much and how often they are needed to the nashville nurse. after that was settled, my husband got on the computer and made flight arrangements for his sisters (he's in the business) while i made hotel and rental car arrangements. as of saturday evening, they were reunited with my mother in law. and my husband will be traveling there later this week when he's off again from work.
while the day's events were not at all funny, i was extremely touched by the help of strangers and friends alike in my time of need. a shreveport friend got a list of hospital numbers for me and her fiance checked the hospital he works in. both ladies from the congressman and senators office worked like it was their own mother they were trying to find. everybody prayed. and everybody was wonderful.
and i am truly thankful!
p.s. someone commented on my blog wondering how i was with regards to the hurricane. i'm in dfw, texas and i got not one drop of rain. we had medium winds (i wouldn't even categorize them as strong) and it was a little cloudy. today the sun is shining and it's probably going to get close to 100F again.
