for those of you who are enjoying the day off, i hope you had/are having a relaxing day!
i (finally) saw the passion of the christ this weekend. i was quite overwhelmed by the whole thing. i know the big thing in the news, when it was released, was the violence. i know several people who have seen it and they told me it was pretty strong. but even with all of that forewarning i was very surprised by what i saw. i thought i'd cry because of the intense emotion of the story, but surprisingly i didn't. i got angry. really angry and maybe that's a good thing. i got angry because i began to think about all of the pain, suffering and torture jesus went through for our sins and we are no better off today. people are still judgmental, cruel, abusive, mean-spirited ... the list could go on. i just got so mad because as christians we should be a lot further along than we are. we should be more prepared to stand against wrong and injustice and make attempt to make things right and just.
so i'm mad, but i'm motivated to do better. and i'm hoping the movie touched some other christians in the same way. it's time for an awakening!

So much was made about the physical pain, but in reality that was probably the least of Christ's concerns. Separation from the Father, even if for a short time, was probably (literally) infinitely more painful than forty lashes minus one...
