so, last christmas i got tivo. seven months later i can't even use it. gorgeous and i moved into this really nice apartment complex. so nice that they don't offer cable. when the apartment was built last year it was pre-wired for satellite only. thus, they only offer sbc dish (and you know how i feel about sbc) and directtv. to get directtv you have to pay a $100 deposit and hold a minimum of $24,000 in renter's insurance. at any rate, neither of these satellite services are compatible with tivo. however, you can rent the respective company's dvr. which would be nice if we hadn't already purchased a lifetime service plan on both of our tivos.
so, here we are two months into this lease and counting the days until we can build our house and be reunited with regular cable.
fyi - the satellite guy who connected our service told us that satellite sucks, so much so that he - the satellite guy - subscribes to cable. unbelievable!
